Archives, libraries and other documentary collections

Spain's rich and extensive history has given rise to valuable institutions dedicated to recording our past. Scattered around the country, these repositories of archives, libraries and all kinds of documentary collections extend their welcome to historians, researchers and Hispanists from all over the world. Spain's literary, legal and historic production has played a decisive role in the history of both the Western world and of the countries on the far shores of the Atlantic. This is why the network of institutions dedicated to collecting, documenting, protecting and classifying these collections is one of the most important and advanced in the world.

Archive of the Indies.  -  Its floors house the largest collection of original documents relating to the first around-the-world voyage by Magallanes and Elcano. You can visit the exhibition commemorating this historic feat until February.   See more
