Antiquity and modernity. Richness and uniqueness. Protection and restoration. Spain's artistic and architectural heritage is in itself a compelling reason to visit our country. Spain's role as a crossroads between civilisations since prehistoric times enables it to offer visitors an extensive and abundant monumental heritage. Whether these are the remains of early settlements, archaeological sites left by remote and mysterious cultures, or outstanding buildings and works of engineering at the cutting edge of international architecture, any journey around Spain immediately involves a fusion between antiquity and modernity. And this is also thanks to the efforts which in recent decades have gone into protecting, restoring and adapting this priceless heritage for use by visitors.
