Route of the Iberians

Iberian Peninsula: ‘Land of the Iberians'

The name Iberian comes from the Greek ‘iberoi'. This is hold the people of Ancient Greece in the 6th century BC called those living in the east and south of the Iberian Peninsula. These civilisations dominated the eastern half of Spain until the arrival of the Romans. Discover their art and culture in museums and still preserved archaeological sites.

The Route of the Iberians allows you to delve deeper into Iberian history and culture, presenting ancient Iberian settlements and thematic museums on the period in Spain. You will find them on several routes spread across different areas and regions in the country.

In general, the sites you will discover tend to be fortified settlements, located on elevated spots. A visit can be complemented with a trip to the visitor centres and thematic museums displaying many objects found on digs: sculptures, ceramics, jewels, etc. All this will help you gras pan idea of the customs and way of life of these ancient inhabitants on the Peninsula – the Iberians.
