These free guided tours are exceptional because they enable visitors to see monuments that are usually not open to the public as they are undergoing restoration. It is also a great chance to discover first hand the work that is being carried out by architects, archaeologists and restorers.

This initiative is organised by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, through the Spanish Cultural Heritage Institute (IPCE), and it is in its fifth year. Tours take place every Saturday and Sunday until 31 October and booking is required via their website.

Monuments that can be visited

San Fernando Castile in Figueres (Girona): The current restoration work aims to recover the original look of this 18th century fortress.

Monastery of El Paular, Rascafría (Madrid): The work involves the consolidation, adaptation to the landscape and promotion of the value of the archaeological remains in the eastern part of the monastery.

Nave de Varetas building, Riópar (Albacete): It is part of the Riópar Royal Factory and the aim of the work is to conserve the building as an example of a historic industrial building. In fact, it was the first brass factory to be created in Spain.
