"Discovering Alicante’s past and origins, the legacy different civilisations left behind in the province and its ways of life. ..."

Discovering Alicante’s past and origins, the legacy different civilisations left behind in the province and its ways of life. Strolling through the caves and archaeological sites, getting to know excavation and restoration techniques. Visiting a Roman boat sunk in the sea and touring its holds full of amphorae and treasure. These are just a few of the many activities offered by the MARQ, a complex that brings history to life in a different way.

Throughout the different rooms, visitors travel to the deepest past of prehistory, the Iberian culture period and the later Roman invasion of these Mediterranean shores, and the late Middle Ages. Finally, we get to modern contemporary Alicante, as we know it today. This journey through history goes hand-in-hand with spectacular stagings, audiovisual shows, computer graphics and exhibits that help to easily and enjoyably understand different historical contexts. Recreations of scenarios mimic all details. In this way, visitors are not mere observers but are trapped in an exciting universe comprising important stones, pieces and finds, coming to feel like a real archaeologist.

Temporary exhibitions and conferences are the ideal accompaniment at this interactive museum where surprises abound and old and young ones alike will enjoy and learn about many aspects from Alicante’s past through the most futuristic technology. It is, without doubt, a more-than-recommendable leisure and culture option.
