The most outstanding composers in Spain, Portugal and the Latin American countries are eligible for this award that recognises a creative career that enriches the musical life in this community.
The SGAE's Tomás Luis de Victoria Latin American Music Award was created in 1996 and was given every two years, in remembrance of Luis de Victoria, one of the great Spanish musicians of all times who established the foundations of modern music. Since 2005 it is given every year and is worth 60,000. Some of the award winners have been Xavier Montsalvatge, Joan Guinjoan, Antón García Abril and Luis de Pablo.
