Viridiana is a young novice who, prior to taking her vows, goes to visit her uncle Jaime. On seeing her, Don Jaime discovers a living portrait of his own deceased wife, who had died during their honeymoon. After having her dress in his dead wife’s wedding dress, he declares his love for her, but she refuses. In an attempt to restrain her, he makes her believe that he has raped her while she was asleep. In horror, Viridiana returns to the convent. On this same day, Don Jaime commits suicide. Viridiana, feeling ashamed, abandons the religious order to go and live in her uncle’s mansion, undertaking charity works. The arrival of her cousin Jorge changes her destiny.
