Through three generations, the relationship between two families in Guipúzcoa have been marked by hate and violence. The story begins in 1875, during the Carlist war, when an Aizkolari (Basque trunk cutter) saves his own life by feigning to be dead. When he escapes from the cart transporting cadavers, he comes face to face with an enormous cow, which has a strange effect on him, becoming a lifelong obsession.
