This story contains many keys into the personal on-screen universe of director Julio Medem.  
 

Angel has a broad imagination and double personality; he thinks that he is half man, half angel. He arrives at a winemaking region to exterminate the plague of grubs whose presence causes the wine to acquire an earthy flavour. There he gets involved with two different women: one is Angela, mother of a family, timid and simple; the other is Mari, a 19-year old, passionate and fiery woman. Angel is torn between the two women.
