The title originates in a phrase of Confucius, saying that women are half of heaven.

Rosa is from a poor family. She marries a knife grinder who turns out to be a swindler. When her husband dies in prison, she goes to Madrid with her daughter, Olvido. Rosa finds work in the house of Don Pedro, a supplies manager who gets her a job in a stall at an important market. Despite people’s envy, things start to go well for Rosa, who opens a restaurant and meets Juan. One day, Rosa’s daughter has a very unpromising premonition about Juan.
