A portrayal of the illusions and problems of Spanish society in the 1950s, with much black humour.
Don Anselmo is an old man who yearns after a motorised wheelchair to get around in Madrid. Many of his friends already have one and he wants to buy one too. As his family refuses to help, Anselmo decides to sell his possessions to get what he wants. When his family find out, they send back the wheelchair. That is when Anselmo starts to use all of his cunning to get it back in his possession.
