Pedro Almodóvar’s most intimate film yet. Without being autobiographical, it is full of personal experiences and references to the director’s career.

Salvador Mallo is a fading film director, unable to work due to a personal crisis and a creative block brought on by illness. His loneliness drives him into a series of encounters, some real and some remembered: his childhood in the 1960s, first love, the pain of a breakup, the discovery of film, loss, writing as therapy to help him forget… During this process of rediscovery of the past, Salvador feels an urgent need to narrate it, a need which will also become a lifeline.
