This film established the director’s reputation nationally and internationally. Following this success, he made two more films: “Un hecho violento” (“Violent Fate”) and “La noche y el alba”.

In an atmosphere of civil and political unrest, the country experiences fighting and revolts. Three fugitives, each having committing a murder, hide away in the mountains of Andalusia. Pursued by the Civil Guard, they try to reach the sea in order to stow away on a ship to America.
