Original title

Bodegón con frutas

This canvas is regarded as one of the high points of Moillon's painting career.

Compared to his simpler compositions, this still life has a more sophisticated structure. The light is very concentrated, highlighting the objects in the centre of the picture and creating strategic shadows that accentuate the depth. The shades of color are very rich and the harmony between them balances the composition. The painting depicts spring fruit and vegetables such as artichokes, asparagus, strawberries, plums and apricots. The painter shows the foliage covering the fruit in minute detail.
