Liturgical horn or "shofar" of a breeding ram, used as a wind musical instrument.

It is blown in penitential festivals such as Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanah. In the Middle Ages it was also used on many other occasions such as fasting days, funerals, anathemas or the beginning of the Sabbath.

Nowadays, it is still used in Israel to solemnise official events such as the swearing-in ceremony of the new State President.
