The glass jugs found in Calatrava La Vieja are the most outstanding pieces not only of Almohad glassware, but of all the glassware found in Al-Andalus.

The edge and base were made separately of blue glass, and the rest of the piece is colourless. The whole of the body is covered with fluted decoration. The typology of its form is similar to a mosque lamp, dating from around 1200. Nothing similar to these pieces from Calatrava has been found in al-Andalus. This fact, together with quality and quantity of the jugs found in this site, indicates that they may have been produced locally. This would support the thesis regarding the importance of Calatrava during the brief period of Almohad dominion of the region, as this was the foremost point of the territory of al-Andalus in its resistance against the kingdom of Castile.
