The discovery of these pendants indicates the existence of a crafts workshop which used materials such as bone and shell, a widespread practice in prehistoric times.

290 pendants were found in this archaeological site known as 'Los Parrales' located on a ridge overlooking the Cigüela river in Arenas de San Juan (Ciudad Real). The importance of the finding lies in the large number of beads, their association with bell-shaped ceramics, and the fact that they were found on the surface and not by means of excavation. The pendants are made mainly with bone and teeth. These beads date from the end of the third millennium within the period known as the Chalcolithic era, and may have been used in necklaces, breastplates, diadems and other adornments, and even as early coins.
