Bronze sculpture of Emperor Charles V which represents the idea of peace, despite showing the emperor as a warrior.
The original idea for the sculpture is Roman and it is inspired by Virgil's "Aeneid" in which the Emperor Augustus is exalted. In fact, on the base there is the abbreviation of Emperor Cesar Charles Augustus, which connects both emperors.
The sculpture shows the emperor victorious in battle, bringing peace to his people. It represents Charles V's wish to be depicted as a Christian hero and prince of peace.
The naked figure that the emperor is stepping on is the Fury - represented as an adult man in chains and with a look of anger and hatred.
