Deemed to be one of the best landscape works in Catalan modernist painting, it displays the best qualities of an artistic personality as unmistakeable as that of Joaquim Mir.

Unlike the majority of the artists of his generation, Joaquim Mir never visited Paris and was not directly influenced by the impressionists. This view of the village of Maspujols (Tarragona), is one of the artist’s most extraordinary pictures. The explosion of colour is a sharp reflection of his inner experiences. The innovative way of interpreting the landscape is indicative of his great descriptive talent, an innate ability to capture an amazing atmosphere in an original manner by applying patches of vibrant, daring colours with harmonious chromatic tones.
