This is one of the masterpieces of the European Romanesque. It is notable for its vivid colours and a style that tends towards geometry and abstraction.

It is generally considered one of the most outstanding Romanesque paintings in existence. Its genius consists in the combination of different biblical visions that present us with Christ at the Last Judgement: the Apocalypse, Isaiah and Ezekiel. Christ appears in the background and gives the composition a centrifugal movement in which the ornamental sense of the profiles dominate in a skilful use of colour that creates a sense of volume. The exceptional artistic force of the work by the Master of Taüll has survived into modern times and fascinated 20th-century avant-garde artists such as Picasso and Francis Picabia.
