Mantón de Manila

Silk shawl with a fringe and embroidered with flowers and birds. It stands out because of its beauty and the detailed embroidery.

The fringe on the edge is typical of Manila and it is the main feature that makes it different from shawls from China, mainly from Canton.

Shawls like this one arrived in Europe together with china, brocades, silk, ivory, etc., in the Manila-Acapulco Galleon, which covered that route from 1565 to 1811.
