Original title

Panel with Eggs and Stool

Work of art based on the idea of the multiplication of natural objects, in this case eggshells, to create an accumulative work based on organic shapes.

The artist, Marcel Broodthaers, included the stool with eggshells later on, which he used in the restoration of the work, and a box, which has disappeared, proving that "with a small flip of the hand and in a fraction of a second, he decided whether an everyday object would become a work of art". The presence of Broodthaers in the art scene was absolutely rich and provocative.

Broodthaers's first official work as a sculptor was to pour liquid plaster on a pile of copies of the poem anthology "Pense-Bête". His aim was to express the capacity of the poems to become objects, although his work was also aimed at the possibility of an object becoming art.
