Equal-Parallel: Guernica-Bengasi

One of the works by Richard Serra, an important part of the change in the concept of sculpture, which moves towards autonomous art, connected to spatial and material experimentation.

The work is conceived following the concepts of balance, dimension and weight. It was created specifically for the building that houses the Reina Sofía Museum. It is made up of four solid hot-rolled corten steel blocks, volumes that are aligned with an elevation of 148.5 centimetres (Equal Elevations), equal to the height of the windowsill. Two of the four blocks are square and 24 centimetres deep. The other two are rectangular with the same depth, and 5 metres wide.
