This work is a gem of its genre and has featured in various national and international exhibitions on European medieval precious metalwork.
It comes from the abbey of Santa María de Dehesa Brava (Husillos), and is a key piece in the study and knowledge of medieval art. The Virgin is depicted seated on a throne and holding the Baby Jesus, both crowned and with a hieratic appearance. This type of virgin-thrones served as relics that were carried into battle.
The circular pediment on which it stands bears the inscription "Ave María Gratia Plena". The base of the throne is adorned with plant motifs. The sides are decorated with a reproduction of the mystery of the annunciation, with the angel on one side and the Virgin on the other. At the back there is a door with the depiction of the "creating hand of God", made in Limoges enamel.
