Roman bronze depicting the figure of Hercules corresponding to the model of “Hercules Gaditanus”, a figure widely revered in Hispanic territories, and typified by this beautiful example found in Talavera de la Reina.

The turn of the body and the position of the right hand indicates that it was probably resting on an object, probably the club which was an attribute of Hercules. The left arm is missing: this hand most likely held the apple from the garden of the Hesperides, similar to a model recorded in Greek sculpture since the 4th century B.C., a prototype which was adopted to represent “Hercules Gaditanus”.
