This finely crafted piece is skilfully modelled and decorated with the spray technique, which is rarely used in pieces of large size and with a bulky shape.

This large jar dates from the last quarter of the 16th century and coincides with a moment of splendour for the ceramics of Talavera, due to Philip II’s policy of commissioning pieces for the Monastery of El Escorial.

Its three noteworthy elements are the large royal crest with the coats of arms of Castile-León and Aragon and the crest of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, the spray-type decoration and the strength conveyed by the perfection of its modelling.
