This bronze statuette is one of a group of iconic warrior representations known as “mars balearicus”.
This warrior is one of a series of pieces found in Menorca and, above all, in Majorca, which generally represent war gods. They are possibly Etruscan, with local imitations, and have oriental origins. The piece was found with its pedestal, flanked by other figurines with ashes at their feet.
Its name, Son Favar-1, is taken from the estate in Capdepera where it was found. Son Favar is an exceptional prehistoric archaeological site in the Balearic Islands. Apart from the warrior, the excavations uncovered bronze, iron, pottery and vitreous paste objects.
