Cadiz, Andalusia

This is an exceptional example of the so-called "popular arts".

The Tía Norica theatre company started in the early 19th century and is an important part of the cultural heritage of Cadiz and Andalusia. Originally the performances began after the Feast of the Immaculate Conception and included, firstly, a Christmas play, and then the festive comic sketch of the Tía Norica was put on.

This theatre company still exists today. The key of its survival is mainly based on two factors: the daily improvisation in every play and the ability to adapt the scripts to the different local and national changes throughout its history.
