The museum's collection of drawings and engravings contains fascinating examples such as this work produced by José de Ribera, also known as El Españoleto, or the little Spaniard.

This drawing is considered to be one of Ribera's most interesting, and was created as a sketch for a painting of the same name which belonged to the Spanish Royal Collection, and was lost in the 1734 fire in the Alcázar Palace in Madrid. It is technically perfect thanks to the artist's skill in the use of pencil and red crayon. Created in 1626, it can be compared to other works held in different museums with a similar composition and the same repetition of postures and gestures.
