This altarpiece is an interesting example of the style of the pictorial school of Cordoba in the late 15th century.

This work was originally in the former hospital founded in the 14th century by Antón Cabrera and his wife, and has as its central motif the figure of Christ tied to the column, surrounded by Saint Anthony the Great, Saint John the Evangelist, Saint Francis receiving the stigmata and Saint Anthony with the Child. It was attributed successively to Juan de Zamora and Alonso de Aguilar. These attributions have both since been cast into doubt, and the anonymous artist is now simply identified as the Master of the Flagellation, one of the best in the school of Cordoba.
