This work, also known as the Virgin of the Silversmiths, was produced for the street altar of the silversmiths' guild in Cordoba.

Valdés Leal created this work during his stay in Cordoba around 1645. This Virgin was destined for the altar installed by the silversmiths' guild in what was formerly known as Calle de la Pescadería (Fishmonger's Street), and was removed from the site in 1841. It emulates the composition of Murillo's work Virgin with Friar Juan de Quirós, conserved in the Archbishop's Palace in Seville, and represents the Virgin on a base of fine silverwork flanked by the patron saint of the guild and Saint Anthony of Padua, who also had particular significance for silversmiths.
