This is a work by one of the creators of the style of painting which depicts the phenomenon of private collecting.

Although the variety of objects to be seen in the room includes sculptures, jewellery and jugs, there is above all an abundance of paintings on a series of themes: religion, mythology, and landscape. This interest in Fine Art, and particularly in painting, stemmed from Antwerp, and the importance of the figure of the amateur art enthusiast. This oil painting on board dates from 1630, and the artist highlights this attitude through the two male figures who are shown conversing before a painting.
