Preparatory sketches for the work "Premonition of Civil War", carried out two years before the final piece.

They were drawn on 6 May 1934. In these sketches, Salvador Dalí depicts heartrending images of the ravages of war, by means of a pile of dislocated bones and a face looking up towards the sky with an expression of pain. It has been subsequently related to the breaking, dismemberment and extreme social and political clash that were taking place at that time in Spain and in Europe.

Some critics have also related these works by Dalí to the Black Paintings of Goya.
