This item has uncommon features, which makes it hard to say to which culture it belongs.

The basket has similar features to those of two groups from the centre-south of California such as the Yokuts and the Chumash. While the truncated cone shape with the marked shoulder is typical of the Yokuts, the decorative designs are more like the Chumash style.

It has dark brown geometrical decorations all along the surface. It is woven using a spiral technique and the tones used in the decorative motifs are achieved by using specific parts of dye plants.
