A painting that depicts a view of Portugalete, which has been identified as the place called Peñota, in the environs of the old Portugalete beach.

In the background there is a coastal town, possibly Santurce, and on the foothills of the cliff that flanks the beach there is a farmhouse which is probably a fortified construction: the cannon battery called Campo del Cuervo or Campo Grande.

The painting belonged to the Puertos de la Mar Oceána series, or views of ports in the Cantabrian Sea. Carlos III commissioned Luis Paret to paint the series, possibly suggested by Charles, the prince of Asturias and king of Spain from 1788. Nine marinas are currently preserved from the series painted by Paret: views of Portugalete, Bilbao, Bermeo, San Sebastián, Pasajes and Fuenterrabía.
