This is a portrait of one of the favourite sisters of the Marquis of Cerralbo, and was painted to highlight her beauty.

She is depicted in a graceful pose and her hair is arranged in the Isabelline style. She is wearing a crescent moon ornament on her head in the manner of Diana, the Greek goddess of hunting. This piece was fashionable in Europe thanks to the influence of English jewellery from the Victorian period, and in this portrait, the sitter is compared to the goddesses in Greek mythology.
