This item is surprising because all the faces are decorated as a result of being used in two different moments in history.

It is made of marble. At first it was decorated with typical Roman art themes, which is why volutes, acanthuses, vines and craters can be seen vertically. For these reasons and because of its formal quality and its technique, we can say it was made in the 2nd century.

Later on, between the 9th and 10th centuries, this pagan element was Christianised. The orientation of the block was changed and a scene was engraved on the main side. It is hard to identify, but it has been interpreted as the Ascension of Christ.
