Original title

Tetradracma de Ptolomeo IV

Greek silver coin dating from the period of Ptolemy, bearing likenesses of the Egyptian gods Serapis and Isis.

The obverse depicts the superimposed busts of the gods Serapis and Isis. The god Serapis wears a laurel crown, and the Egyptian ostrich-feather crown ('atef'). The goddess Isis is shown adorned with a crown of wheat and a crown with horns and a moon ('basileion'). The reverse bears an eagle with a cornucopia on the left wing, the hallmark of the place the coin was struck, and the inscription 'PTOLOMAIOU BASILEOS'.
