Bronze Age

Original title

Espada de Guadalajara

A unique piece from the Bronze Age in the Peninsula. It represents the best example of the development of this model as a weapon of prestige and one that reveals social standing.

It is an object designed for social display as much as - or more than - for combat. The sword is the clear precedent of the emblematic knight's weapon that is so deeply etched in our collective consciousness.

The piece known as the "Guadalajara spear" does not have a precise archaeological context. It may have formed part of a site to which two other sword blades belonged, as well as remains of a golden hilt. Its location is probably some point in what is now the province of Guadalajara.
