This summary of astronomy in four chapters was used in all European universities until the end of the 16th century.

“Sphaera mundi” is the main work by Johannes de Sacrobosco (the Latin name of the Englishman John of Holywood), which contains the theories of Ptolemy and Al-Fargani. This incunabula is an annotated edition by the French cardinal Pierre d’Ailly, a key figure in the church of his time and who was also a leading student of geography. In fact he was the author of the famous work “Imago mundi”, where he speaks of the Earth being round and thus anticipates the theories of Copernicus.
