Original title

Tratado de Aranjuez por el que España entrega a Francia La Louisiana

The Treaty of San Ildefonso in 1800 and the Treaty of Aranjuez in 1801 were two secret agreements signed by Spain and France during the Napoleonic wars.

The main points agreed on included the transfer of the Spanish possessions of Louisiana and the Duchy of Parma to France, in exchange for the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, which would be given to the Spanish infante Luis Francisco de Borbón-Parma with the name of the Kingdom of Etruria.
From a historical point of view, the treaty was favourable to France: at the time, the Spanish colony of Louisiana, with 50,000 people, stretched from the Gulf of Mexico to the border with Canada, covering a surface that was 100 times larger than that of Tuscany. And in 1800 Spain also lost Parma and agreed to hand over six ships.
