Coat of arms awarded by the Emperor Charles V to Don Cristóbal Paullo Inca, on 9 May 1545.

The recipient was the son of Huayna Cápac, one of the thirteen emperors of the Inca empire or Tahuantinsuyo. The centre of the empire was in Cuzco, and it stretched from Ecuador to central Chile, central Bolivia and El Chaco.

Throughout the colonial era, the descendents of Inca kings and noblemen attempted to perpetuate the privileges and perquisites enjoyed by their forebears.
