Raimon rescued one of the great Valencian poets from the Middle Ages.
Launched as a single in 1969, Veles e vents was the first of the many adaptations of mediaeval poems set to music that Raimon created. This is one of the poet and mediaeval knight Ausiàs March’s best known poems (15th century), which tells the story of a boat trip from Italy to Valencia in search of his loved one. It has also been interpreted as a declaration of love for the winds, which blew in new cultural life.
Given the success of the song, Raimon included it the following year on the record Per destruir aquell qui l’ha desert which comprised musical adaptations of 15th-century Catalan poets.
