This work is fundamental in the history of Spanish dance and was included in the programme of the Spanish National Ballet in 1984.
The production of these 'Ritmos' by Lorca, together with 'Danza y tronío' by the legendary Mariemma, and 'Medea' by José Granero with music by Manolo Sanlúcar were all part of a historic year for Spanish dance. The musical score of 'Ritmos' was composed by José Nieto on commission from the then director of the Spanish National Ballet, María de Ávila.
The first of the two choreographies Lorca produced for the Spanish National Ballet is considered a real masterpiece. With this, Lorca reached the status of 'classic'. His main traits are his good taste, refinement, with traditional control of group choreographies and his sense of choreutic planimetry.
