Prohibido leer a Lewis Carroll

Diego Arboleda presents a story of outstanding originality and biting irony which earned him the 2014 National Children's and Young People's Literature Award.

"Prohibido leer a Lewis Carroll" (Forbidden to read Lewis Carroll) involves a surrealistic story woven around the world of Carroll, whose plot features caricatures that are even more outlandish than those in "Alice in Wonderland". It tells the story of a young French governess who in 1932 travels to New York to take care of a little girl whose parents, fearful of her flights of fancy, do not allow her to read the works of Lewis Carroll. The plot was inspired by a news item seen by the author that appeared in "The Straits Times" in 1931, which reported the ban by the governor of Hunan (Shanghai) on reading the famous work by the British author because "the animals speak".

"Prohibido leer a Lewis Carroll", illustrated by Raúl Sagospe, is also the winner of the Lazarillo Award (2012) and the award from the Cuatrogatos Foundation in Miami. It appears on the prestigious White Ravens list for 2014 compiled by the Internationale Jugendbibliothek in Munich as one of the best titles in its genre worldwide.
