Palabras para Julia y otras canciones

José Agustín Goytisolo collects in this work all of his poems intended to be sung.

Published in 1979, “Palabras para Julia y otras canciones” is a book by José Agustín Goytisolo, a representative of the writers of the so-called Generation of the ’50s.

In this work the author gathers his ‘lyrics to be sung’, i.e. poems conceived to be sung, written between the 1950s and the end of the 1970s.

They include “El retorno” and “Del tiempo y del olvido”, but the most famous of them is undoubtedly “Palabras para Julia”. In this poem, the only one previously unpublished, Goytisolo recalls his mother, who died in a Francoist bombardment, and gives advice to his small daughter. “Palabras para Julia” enjoyed its greatest popularity in 1969, when singer-songwriter Paco Ibáñez set the poem to music on his record, “Paco Ibáñez 3”.
