Original title

Noches en los jardines de España

Magic, ritual and oriental exuberance, steeped in Andalusian folklore. One of the most beautiful orchestral pieces by the composer from Granada, Manuel de Falla.

A work for piano and orchestra by the great Manuel de Falla, begun in 1909 as set of nocturnes for piano. It was the pianist, Ricardo Vines, who suggested he should transform this first work into a single orchestral piece for piano. Convinced, Falla continued work on it until it was completed in 1915.

Its three movements are inspired by different gardens: “In the Generalife”, “Distant Dance” and “In the Gardens of the Sierra de Córdoba”.

This early work already contains the elements of Falla’s mature music: Impressionism - he himself describes this piece as “symphonic impressions” -, brilliance and eloquence, and popular folk roots.
