Sara Baras traces the most important episodes in the life of the heroic freedom fighter Mariana Pineda.
Based on the character created by Federico García Lorca, which was in turn inspired by the life of the 19th-century heroine Mariana Pineda, Sara Baras created a new dance spectacle. The work featured the collaboration of the theatre director Lluís Pascual, specialist in the poet from Granada, who wrote the script and was in charge of the stage direction. The music was by Manolo Sanlúcar, who moved away from the pure flamenco style and adopted a far wider range of different sounds.
Sara Baras spent more than one year assimilating and configuring her own Mariana Pineda. Highlights of Baras' choreography include the three pas de deux featuring a sombre zapateado (typical flamenco foot stamping), and the perfect delineation of the movements.
