Los mares del Sur

Fourth instalment of the well-known popular detective saga featuring the sleuth Pepe Carvalho, a character created by the journalist and writer Manuel Vázquez Montalbán.

The famous private detective, Pepe Carvalho, has brought this writer from Barcelona widespread popularity and international recognition.

In this detective saga, one of the most prolific in the Spanish narrative genre, Montalbán uses his protagonist as a way of highlighting the political, social and cultural situation of the time. Given that 'The South Seas' was published in 1979, in his settings and characters the author depicts some of the individual and collective conflicts aroused by the democratic transition in Spain.

The book was highly acclaimed both in Spain and abroad, and won the Planeta Prize in 1979 and the Prix International de Littérature Policière in 1981.
