Original title

Las Meninas

Graphic novel by Santiago García and Javier Olivares, and winner of the 2015 National Comic Award for capturing the way in which a work of art becomes transformed into a symbol.

“Las Meninas”, the painting depicting the family of Philip IV, is an artistic icon and has inspired endless artists and creators. The graphic novel of the same name is an intelligent deconstruction of the figure of Diego Velázquez, to whom the work pays homage. The comic's creators set up a dialogue between the painting and artists such as Dalí, Picasso and Goya as proof that when a work becomes art, it lives on for ever.
